Let’s move on to the second pirate, a little trickier to make, but still accessible for a 6-year-old. Ready to go? Let’s get started! ⚓️

<1) The body

Let’s draw a large oval shape to represent the head of this adorable cartoon pirate. The body and pants are made up of a long and short rectangle.

This second step is very important and involves several elements. Start by drawing the eyes using large circles. The ears are made with smaller circles. Arms are represented by rectangles, and hands by circular shapes. Don’t forget the feet. 👣

Pirate drawing 3

This drawing is a little more complex and therefore more aimed at adults. However, children over 10 can also try their hand at it with no problem! Ready, mate? Let’s take a look in 15 steps! ☠️

1) Draw the basics

Start by drawing the basic guiding lines of the pirate, as shown in the drawing. These lines will help you create the perfect pirate. Once you’ve mastered this pirate, you’ll be ready to draw many more. It’s a good idea to start with the head or torso, then add the other elements to keep the proportions right.

2) Face lines

Draw the facial lines, shown here in red. They delineate the outline of the face where the beard whiskers begin.

3) Eyes and nose

Draw the eyes and nose. The nose can be quite square in shape. Remember, we’re drawing a character who spends a lot of time in harsh outdoor conditions and is fighting. For one of the eyes, let’s use an eye patch. 👁

8) The pants

Draw the pirate’s pants. In this case, they’re more like tight breeches, but pirates can also wear looser pants. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to make them wider or not. 👖

9) Drawing the boot

Draw the boot on the leg in the air. Boots were an important part of staying dry and safe on the ship’s rigging, so apply yourself!

10) The wooden leg

Draw the ubiquitous wooden leg. We wouldn’t have a real fighter without this element! But if you’d rather he had two legs and two boots, just copy the boot on the other foot, placing it either forward or in the opposite direction to the first boot. 🥾

11) The hand

Add the pirate’s hand. When drawing the hand, turn it into a clenched fist for a more menacing style, as shown by the red lines just below. For the end of the sleeve, draw the ruffle or lace protruding from the shirt to reflect the clothes of yesteryear.

12) The pirate’s sword

Draw the pirate’s weapon. Make sure the end of the blade is sharp. And add the same detail to the end of the handle as in the previous step.

13) The details

Now let’s get down to the details. To bring the pirate to life, details are an important aspect of giving it depth and charm. Here are a few of those details:

  • The skull and bones insignia on the hat. ☠️
  • Clothing lines to give the impression that they’re fluid and therefore realistic.
  • More whiskers in the beard.
  • Light reflection lines on clothing, boot leather, hat, etc.

14) Clear lines

Now erase all the guiding lines you didn’t draw and use in the previous steps. They’re pretty obvious here and should be easy to find on your own drawing.

15) Drawing shadows and contours

Add the final touches needed to complete your drawing’s outlines and shadows. Darken areas such as the eye patch and shadow in areas requiring shading. Once that’s done, you’re free to color the pirate with colored pencils or paint as you wish.
