Drawing a Clown – Model 1
The first drawing we’ll present will showcase the exaggerated features of a clown’s face. He’ll have a funny hat, big eyebrows, a voluminous mouth and curly hair. This design is perfect for children, as our clown will be smiling and full of color. 🎨
We recommend you bring a pencil, a black marker, a blank sheet of paper (or a drawing book) and colored pencils. You’ll need about an hour to make this pretty clown.
<1) The Nose
Let’s start at the center of the design by simply drawing the clown’s nose. A circle in the middle will be perfect.
2) The Eyes
The eyes are placed on either side of the nose. Let’s draw two large oval semicircles and two small circles in the center. 👀
3) The Head
Now let’s draw the head around the eyes and nose. The shape is free, but we recommend an oval shape as shown in the diagram below.
4) The Mouth
A banana-shaped mouth will give the clown an authentic appearance. 👄
5) The bust
Now that the face is formed, let’s draw our beloved clown’s bust. Let’s start with two strokes to form the neck, then add a prominent big bow tie as an accessory. Let’s finish with the shoulders.
6) Hair
Let’s add ears and beautiful curly hair. The more volume, the better!
7) The Hat
Now let’s draw the hat that simply sits on our prankster’s head. Let’s not forget to add a little flower for a cheerful touch to our dear clown. 💐
8) Finishes
Now let’s erase the little lines and strokes we used to draw clean contours. Let’s add our personal touch to the clown with accessories and symbols, such as polka dots on the bow tie!
9) The Color Scheme
Now all you have to do is color your clown! Choose the colors that suit you best. Here’s our finished drawing below. Don’t hesitate to give us your opinion in comments! 😃
Drawing Clown – Model 2
Our second clown is also fairly simple to draw, although it features more detail than the first. It’s suitable for children who are used to drawing. Once again, we’ll be making it step by step, with explanations at each stage.
1) The Head
Let’s start by creating a simple oval shape. This shape will be used to draw the head. You’ll notice that the top of the head is slightly more pointed and narrower than the base.
2) The Body
Next, let’s draw the body using a small rectangle. The arms and legs are also represented by small rectangles. The hands are formed by small circular shapes. ⚇
3) Hair and Feet
Now it’s time to add some hair to the head of our animated clown. You can use curved lines to create this shape. You can also draw the feet using a curved line and a straight line.🦶
4) The Face
Now let’s work on the face. Let’s start by adding the eyes and pupils with large circular shapes. The nose can also be drawn with a smaller circle. The area around the mouth is drawn with a curved rectangle, giving the appearance of a banana-shaped smile. 😬
5) Details
We can complete the work on this character by adding some oval shapes inside our drawing. The mouth is made up of a long curved line, and you can also add large buttons to your clown’s shirt.
6) Let’s admire the Result!
Congratulations! Here’s the final version of the character in black and white. If you’d like to color it to give it more life, then here we go!
Drawing a Circus Clown – Model 3
Now that we’ve made the two simplest clowns in our article, let’s move on to a third, slightly more complex model! This one is suitable for children accompanied by an adult to guide them, or simply for adults. 🎈
Grab an eraser, a pencil, a blank sheet of paper (or a drawing notebook) and let’s start creating a magnificent circus clown drawing!
<1) The Body
Drawing involves a lot of detail. It’s best to draw using geometric shapes to keep everything proportionate and symmetrical. Start by drawing 2 straight lines that intersect at the bottom. Next, draw a pretty oval body.
2) The Mouth
Draw the shape that represents the mouth and cheeks. Mark the bottom to create the chin.
3) The Head
Now draw the upper part of the head. Simply use an oval shape.
4) The Arms
“Tie” the arms to the upper part of the body, drawing them with curved lines. 💪
5) Eyes and Hands
Now add the hands at the end of the arms. Start by drawing the face, adding the eyes and nose.
6) Ears and Belt
Find the middle of the body and divide it using two lines to create a belt. Then draw the eyebrows as curved arcs above the eyes. Don’t forget to draw the ears on either side of the head. 👂
These clown drawings will help you have fun and develop your artistic talents. Feel free to personalize them in your own style and add creative touches. Let the show begin! 🎪

For a unique touch, draw voluminous, wavy hair framing the sad clown’s face.
8) The Face
Add pupils to the sad clown’s eyes and draw a downward-curving mouth to represent his sadness.

Our sad clown wears a hat on his head and a bow tie around his neck. Add these items carefully to complete his melancholy appearance. 🕶

Drawing of Clown – Model 4
Let’s move on to our fourth model! This one’s accessible to kids and adults alike, so have fun! 🤡
1) The basics
Start by drawing a circle to represent the torso. Next, draw an oval shape with another oval superimposed for the head. Draw intersecting lines to guide the facial features.
2) Arms and Legs
Now create guides for the arms and legs by drawing “V”-shaped lines. Add circles for the ends of the arms and ovals for the ends of the legs.
3) The Face
Draw the contours of the lower jaw, chin and ears to start drawing our clown’s face 😀
4) Nose, Mouth and Eyes
Use the previous guides to draw the clown’s eyes, nose and smiling mouth. Make sure to keep a harmonious symmetry in the facial features.
5) Hair
The tufts of hair around the ears look like little clouds. This makes for a beautiful circus clown hairstyle. 🥳
6) The Hat
A true clown wouldn’t be complete without his hat! Add this signature piece above the clown’s head.
7) The Bow Tie
Draw a pretty bow tie around the clown’s neck to add a touch of elegance. 🕶
8) Suspenders
Draw the suspenders at the front of the clown’s outfit using curved lines.
9) Sleeves
Add the sleeves to the clown’s outfit. Don’t forget to draw in the pleats for a more realistic look.
10) The Hands
Now draw two beautiful hands at the ends of the sleeves. You can draw them open, as if the clown were “cuckooing”.
11) The Pants
Draw a pair of baggy pants buttoned at the end of the suspenders to complete the clown’s outfit. 👖
12) The Shoes
Draw two large shoes for the clown. Notice that the ends of the shoes are swollen, which is typical of a clown costume!
13) All that’s left is to Color!
Finish by coloring your drawing. Don’t hesitate to use all the colors available to make your clown even brighter and more colorful! ✍️
Drawing a Sad Clown – Model 5
Having drawn several happy clowns, let’s move on to a sad model for a change. If this is what you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place. In this section, we’ll show you how to draw a sad clown. You can do this by looking at your computer screen and using our templates as a reference, or print out the images if you like. 🤗
1) Head and Body
Start by drawing an egg-shaped head. Below and across the head, draw an oval with four almost flat sides to represent the sad clown’s body.
2) The Costume
Outline the ears, eyes and forehead using U-shapes and curved lines. Use an oval, curved line to draw the nose and forehead. Draw the costume collar by linking U-shapes together. Use a J-shape and a U-shape for each hand. 🤲
Connect the hands using a short line. Place a thin rectangle between the hands. Draw curved lines and curved rectangles for the wrists.
3) Eyes, Ears, Gloves and Hat
Place the hat on your character’s head, we chose to put it askew. Use half-rainbows to draw the eyes. Shape the fingers (or gloves), ears and folds of clothing. Shape collars, shoulders, arms and elbows. Add short curves to the thumbs. For the wristband of each glove, attach a short line to a longer curve. ✍️
4) Make-up and Details
Add detail to the face with a short line, triangles, small circles and a small L-shape, as shown in the image below. Add a large tear for a realistic effect. Draw the hatband with a long curve. Add elbows with many short lines crossing five longer ones.
Add pleats to the coat and shape the cuffs. Place a long curve in each oval button. Connect the inverted J shapes to an oval for the flower. Place a curve in each drop-shaped petal. 💐
5) Shadows
Now darken the pupils to create the eyes properly. Use lots of short lines to shade the collar, arms, wrists, buttons, flower, flowerpot, nose and headband.
And that’s it, our sad clown design is finished! It’s the perfect addition to your drawing collection. It’s a nice change from the happy clowns you see everywhere. Now you can color it in if you like.
Draw a Clown in Color – Model 5
Here’s our penultimate clown model, and it’s the prettiest! This one’s bound to be coloring for a perfect color drawing. No need to wait, here we go!
1) The basics
Start this first step with an egg shape for the head, then add the guiding lines for the face in the middle, as shown in the diagram below. Next, you can draw the shape of the clown’s hair on both sides and then the shape of the ruff he’s wearing too.
2) Facial Features
Start this step by drawing a large inverted triangle on his forehead, giving him two eyebrows. Next, you can draw the clown’s eyes and face shape, especially the jaw line. Next, give him a big smile and draw the shape of the curly hair on the left side of his head. Add his ears too. 👂
3) The Linings
Next, thicken the eyebrows and give the clown eyeballs. Next, you’ll draw the outline of a typical clown’s mouth, then the curl on the left side of his head. Next, start drawing the shape of the crop around his neck.
4) The Clown Nose
Start by drawing a large, perfect circle for the nose, then add a few eyelashes. Next, detail the inside of the clown’s ear, as well as the ruffle around his neck. Give him some nice teeth, then a little teardrop curled at the top of the triangle. Finally, erase all the guidelines and shapes you drew in the first step. 🤡
5) Expressive Details
This is the final drawing step, and here you’ll just be adding a few details to a clown’s face to decorate it. Start by drawing the little pupils, then the triangular shapes on the cheeks. Also draw swirls on the cheeks and nose, then add a circular decoration on the nose. Finish this step by adding her tongue. 👅
