History of the Mongols Biker Gang
The Mongols MC was created in the late 1960s in Los Angeles by David Santillan. Initially, the aim was to ride motorcycles and have a good time with friends. However, these peaceful activities soon became entangled with criminal activity. What began as a small group of ordinary bikers became one of the most controversial biker communities in the United States in less than 15 years. 😵
Mongols are best known for frequently committing violent crimes. They assault, intimidate and commit murder to defend their territory and preserve the club’s reputation. They have also engaged in racially motivated violence against African-American gang members, and even black civilians without gang affiliation. Because of their crimes, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms designated the Mongols as “America’s most violent and dangerous motorcycle gang”.
The majority of the Mongols’ members are Hispanic men living in the Los Angeles area. Many are former street gang members with criminal records related to violence and assault. According to the Federal Police, the Mongol gang currently has around 2,000 members spread across various US states. This number is relatively small compared to gangs such as the “Hells Angels”. Members’ criminal activities
Members of the Mongols have a history of illegal drug trafficking, money laundering, robbery, extortion, murder and assault. These crimes have made the gang one of the most feared biker clubs in the United States. At one point, the Mongols were the target of 270 simultaneous arrest warrants, which led to them being banned from wearing their club logo. This decision was later overturned, but they were fined half a million dollars. An amount that seemed derisory for these self-proclaimed outlaws. 🤔

⇒ In 2002: members of the Mongols and the Hells Angels clashed at Harrah’s Laughlin Casino in Laughlin. This confrontation resulted in the death of three bikers. On February 23, 2007, two members of the Hells Angels were convicted for their respective roles in the murders.
⇒ In 2008: the club was infiltrated by four ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) agents as part of an operation called Black Rain. This operation led to the arrest of 38 Mongolians, including the Mongolians’ national president at the time, Ruben Doc Cavazos. He was subsequently voted out of the club.
⇒ October 4, 2008: Mongols member Christopher Ablett surrendered to authorities in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He had murdered Hells Angels president Mark “Papa” Guardado in San Francisco. His bail was set at $5 million.
⇒ December 20, 2008: in Las Vegas, members of the Mongols went to “A Special Memories Wedding Chapel” to attend the wedding of a clan member. They discovered that a local Hells Angels biker had just completed his own ceremony. According to information from KTNV Channel 13, the Hells Angels attacked the Mongolian members, sending three of them to hospital, including two with stab wounds. No arrests have been made, and local authorities say they are still looking for the suspects involved in the attack.
⇒ October 28, 2014: in San Gabriel, Mongols member David Martinez allegedly shot and killed Pomona police SWAT team member Shaun Diamond. Diamond was shot with a shotgun during a search. Officer Diamond died at Huntington Memorial Hospital in the early hours of October 29, 2014. Martinez was sentenced to death. ⚖️
Over the years, the Mongols have amassed large sums of money from the theft of dozens, if not hundreds, of motorcycles, arms trafficking and drugs. In recent years, the club has claimed to refrain from any further criminal activity. This was announced after David Santillan was elected club president in 2015.
