The Scorpions MC story

The Scorpions Motorcycle Club was founded west of Detroit in 1965 by the first chapter that still exists today, called “the mother chapter”. Other motorcycle groups use the word “Scorpions” in their gang names, such as the Black Scorpions and the Red Scorpions. This article focuses solely on the club founded in Detroit, simply called “Scorpions” with no specific color. 🦂
This club was born of the friendship of four men in search of freedom. Originally, they wanted to create something that brought them together, an entity that simply represented the pleasure of having a good time with friends. Since MCs were popular at the time, and these friends were motorcycle enthusiasts, the idea came naturally. And so the club was born.

Scorpions MC crest and motto

Like all motorcycle gangs, the Scorpions MC has created a logo of its own to recognize itself among members and impose its image on the rest of the world. It’s a scorpion seen from above, always in white on a black background, which is particularly striking on motorcycle jackets!
The gang’s name is always positioned above the animal, in the shape of a rainbow and always in white on a black background. The chapter name is also present at the bottom, aligned horizontally, allowing the different chapters to recognize each other. 🤠

The motto of the 1% gang is simple: “ASSA” meaning “Always Scorpions, Scorpions Always” in English, or “Scorpions pour toujours, pour toujours Scorpions” in French. This motto is widespread in the world of bikers. It means that a member is totally devoted to his club and ready to die for one of his fellow bikers.

The Biker Gang Chapters

Although the gang originated in Michigan, it didn’t limit itself to its original clubhouse! Other biker groups joined the movement, forming a veritable army in different states of the USA. Here are some of the most famous chapters:

  • Scorpions MC clubhouse in Wichita Falls, Texas
  • Scorpions of Coldwater (Burlington), Michigan
  • Scorpions of Dallas, Texas
  • Scorpions of Gun Barrel County (Kemp), Texas
  • Illinois Scorpions (Wilmington), Illinois
  • Ridgeway Scorpions MC, Virginia
  • Scorpions MC Virginia (Danville), Virginia

Many other chapters have sprung up in recent years, but to compile an exhaustive list would be too long. We’ve listed the main clubs. It’s worth noting that the Scorpions have never been outside the USA, so you won’t find them in Europe, for example.

Club House on Fire

On September 22, 2017, the gang’s main clubhouse, also known as “Club House”, was destroyed by flames. The event caused quite a stir and attracted massive media coverage. Residents were very worried about the damage such a gang could cause in their neighborhood. 🔥
The fire was of criminal origin and there was no doubt that it was revenge for an enemy gang that had set fire to the building during the night. This led to clashes between members in various nearby towns. Here is one of the videos broadcast by a TV station the day after this tragic event. It should be noted that no one was injured in the fire, only material goods were destroyed.

Mediatization of the Motorcycle Club

The gang has been involved in a number of high-profile cases, sometimes good, often bad because of the criminal activities of some of its members. Here are some key dates:
⇒ October 12, 1995: Scorpions members Steven Nystie and Edward Clancy, along with Richard Weed and Jimmie McCoy, who were both members of the American Breed MC, were convicted of conspiracy, possession of drugs for sale and interstate transportation of drugs. 😵
Scorpions member Wayne Farmer was acquitted of charges of involvement in a methamphetamine distribution organization. It’s believed they all worked for Alvin McCarver, also known as “Magoo”, a member of the American Breed MC, who ran an extensive meth distribution network in Indiana, Michigan and Missouri. Between 1987 and 1992, he sold over 600 kilos of the drug.

⇒ September 8, 2007: A brawl broke out in the parking lot of the Red Dog Saloon in Milford, Michigan, between the Forbidden Wheels and the Avengers MC after a meeting organized by the Scorpions MC. Press reports suggest that Avengers members were trying to chase Forbidden Wheels members off the road. Four people were stabbed during the fight.

⇒ April 9, 2009: Saul Carrion Reyes was in a bar in Ferris, Texas, where he got into an altercation with a member of the Scorpions motorcycle club. He was seriously injured and his brother’s car was damaged. He was reportedly hit with a gun during the scuffle.

⇒ April 10, 2009: Saul Carrion Reyes chased Michael Wayne Owensby, a member of the Scorpions, and shot him in the neck, leaving him on the side of the road. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. At the time of writing, he is serving his sentence at the Allred Unit near Wichita Falls, Texas. 🔫

Allies and Enemies of the Scorpions

Like all biker gangs involved in illegal activities, the Scorpions face many enemies. Between gang wars for control of territories, drug trafficking and clashes on the roads, let’s see who their allies and enemies are within this exceptional group of bikers. 👇
The clan doesn’t have a large number of apparent enemies. However, altercations with the Bandidos, Hells Angels or Highwaymen seem more frequent than with other groups. These are often disputes over new territories near the mother clubhouses. American Breed seem to be the gang’s only allies.
